美麗的微笑

A Smile is A Gift That Anyone Can Give It costs nothing, but saves much. It eiches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash, and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich that he can get along without it; none so poor that he is not eiched by it. It creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in business, and is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sick, and nature's best antidote for trouble. It cannot be bought, borrowed, or stolen, for it is no earthly good to anyone until it is given away. If you meet someone too burdened with grief or worry to smile, just give him one of yours. For nobody needs a smile so much as he who has none left to give.

青春

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life. Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust. Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonder, the unfailing childlike appetite for what's next in the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the Infinite, so long are you young. When the aerials are down,

and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old, even at 20, but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there is hope you may die young at 80.

信心成就一切

Nothing succeeds lacks confidence. When you are truly and justifiably confident, it radiates from you like sunlight, and attracts success to you like a magnet. It's important to believe in yourself. Believe that you can do it under any circumstances, because if you believe you can, then you really will.The belief keeps you searching for answers, which means that pretty soon you will get them. Confidence is more than an attitude. It

comes from knowing exactly where you are going and exactly how you are going to get there. It comes from acting with integrity and confidence. It comes from a strong sense of purpose. It comes from a strong commitment to take responsibility, rather than just letting life happen. One way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear and to get a record of successful experiences behind you. Confidence is compassionate and understanding. It is not arrogant. Arrogance is born out of fear and insecurity, while confidence comes from strength and integrity. Confidence is not just believing you can do it. Confidence is knowing you can do it.Know that you are capable of accomplishing anything you want,and live your life with confidence. Anything can be achieved through focused, determined effort and self-confidence. If your life is not what you want it to be,you have the power to change it,and you must make the changes on a moment by moment basis. Live your priorities. Live with your goals and your plan of action. Live each moment with your priorities in mind. Act with your own purpose, and you will have the life you want.

英語美文賞析

英語美文，即使用地道、優(yōu)美的英語語言寫的文章；英語美文賞析，則是在接觸地道英語語言的基礎(chǔ)之上，了解和理解英語語言文化背景，欣賞語言確切應(yīng)用所表達(dá)的真實(shí)情景，甚至對其傳達(dá)的情緒情感感同身受，以致對更深層的思想傳達(dá)了解并分享。

我的美文賞析始于2003年，源于幾百篇美國中學(xué)生優(yōu)秀作文的翻譯。3個月的翻譯工作，對于已經(jīng)有20年專業(yè)英語學(xué)習(xí)和近十年英語教學(xué)的我都受益良多。地道的英語語言，真實(shí)的生活場景，生動自然的生活、情感和思緒，一些我們熟識卻總能讓你眼前一亮的小詞、小句給了我最初開設(shè)美文賞析課的想法。浸潤在地道的英語語言文化中，欣賞貌似簡單卻畫面感極強(qiáng)（simple but powerful）的小詞小句，感受簡單平易的意思之下表達(dá)的或栩栩如生的畫面，或真實(shí)動人的情感，或本該諱莫如深卻清晰可觸的思想；而在這不斷的學(xué)習(xí)中慢慢積累起來的東西，正是包括我和我的學(xué)生們這些英語學(xué)習(xí)者最終使用所迫切需要的。

浸潤

語言的學(xué)習(xí)，首先要保證一定的語言輸入（take in），由每天的接觸和積累慢慢養(yǎng)成語言的感覺和習(xí)慣；而美文的閱讀和欣賞，又給予學(xué)生高質(zhì)量的語言。一樣的語言輸入，不一樣品質(zhì)的語言輸入自然效果會有不同。比如“Home Sweet Home”，描述了要搬離居住12年的家，字里行間流露出的依戀和不舍；“The Beauty of the Beast”，小作者在回家路上偶遇一只不愿離棄被車撞身亡的同伴的小松鼠，真切體會到這只小動物身上的獸性之美，從而引發(fā)的對于人性的思考，而導(dǎo)致學(xué)生們對自己身上人性的剖析，并給了學(xué)生們“有心觀世界，點(diǎn)滴皆故事”的啟迪；“I Call Myself”， 通過一個媽媽在給孩子描述白種人，黃種人和黑人時(shí)表現(xiàn)出的細(xì)微的態(tài)度差別，包括使用的不同詞匯，描述了在美國真實(shí)存在的種族歧視。這在美國黑人總統(tǒng)Obama當(dāng)政的今天，給了學(xué)生們不小的震撼，也加強(qiáng)了他們對于美國種族差異的了解和認(rèn)識。典型生動的細(xì)節(jié)，簡單溫暖的文字，真實(shí)動人的情感，總讓學(xué)生們在讀完以后感動沉思。我想，這就是語言的力量，這就是語言值得我們用心欣賞的原因——了解生活，感受美麗，觸動心靈。每天浸潤其中，怎會沒有收益？

欣賞

出于語言學(xué)習(xí)的目的，在美文閱讀中我指導(dǎo)學(xué)生欣賞的，首先是用于表達(dá)的字、詞、句。對于詞，我有一句名言“simple but powerful”，所有的詞匯，都要在合適的情境中才能表現(xiàn)出觸動人心的力量 （situational words）。學(xué)生漸漸領(lǐng)悟——詞匯的使用，并不是越難越大越好，而是要針對情景；無論多小多簡單的詞匯，只要使用恰當(dāng)，就都會具有打動人心的力量——比如，在讀到The young squirrel once more stands erect and with piercing emptiness in his coal black eyes， faces me時(shí)，正是 “此時(shí)無聲勝有聲”的感受——痛到深處無言表。

In doing so, you'll find you have the ability to overcome each obstacle brought your way.

When you find yourself drained and depleted of energy, remember to find a place of sanctuary and rest.

當(dāng)你覺得精疲力盡的時(shí)候，暫時(shí)離開，讓自己稍作休息。

Take the neccessary time in your own life to dream your dreams and renew your energy, so you'll be ready to face each new day.

給自己留點(diǎn)時(shí)間做做夢，充一下電，這樣你就能以嶄新的面貌去面對每一天。

When you feel tension building, find something fun to do. You'll find that the stress you feel will dissipate and your thoughts will become clearer.

當(dāng)你感覺到緊張的壓力，做一些有樂趣的事吧。你會發(fā)現(xiàn)壓力在漸漸消逝，你的想法也漸漸明朗了。

When you're faced with so many negative and draining situations, realize how minuscule problems will seem when you view your life as a whole--and remember the positive things.

當(dāng)你面對重重困難的時(shí)候，要意識到相對于你的整個生命，這些難題其實(shí)是微不足道的--銘記你生命中美好的東西。
