前 前 言 言
IBM 的 RS/6000 系列小型機(jī)上運(yùn)行著一種叫做 AIX 的 UNIX操作系統(tǒng)。AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive--高級(jí)交互式執(zhí)行體)是 IBM 公司 1992 年推出的一種 UNIX 操作系統(tǒng)。它是在 X/OPEN XPG3/4、X/OPEN SPEC1170、Open Software Foundation (OSF/AES) 、AT&T System V、 Berkeley BSD 4.3 等 UNIX 操作系統(tǒng)或標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的基礎(chǔ)上,進(jìn)行了改造與擴(kuò)充后形成的操作系統(tǒng)。它增加的主要技術(shù)有:SNA LU 0,1,2,6.2、Logical Volume Manager(LVM)、Virual Memory、圖形用戶接口(GUI)、DOS 應(yīng)用以及高可用性等。它與其它 UNIX 操作系統(tǒng)都是由同一原始代碼開發(fā)而成,并保持了與其他 UNIX 操作系統(tǒng)的相容性。在遵循了絕大多數(shù) UNIX 工業(yè)界標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的同時(shí),AIX 還具有自己獨(dú)特的優(yōu)勢(shì)。它有一個(gè)可以隨時(shí)動(dòng)態(tài)擴(kuò)充及連接的核心(Kernel) ,一個(gè)強(qiáng)勁的存儲(chǔ)管理系統(tǒng)——邏輯存儲(chǔ)管理(Logical Volume Manager,LVM),一個(gè)可靠的文件系統(tǒng)——日志文件系統(tǒng)(Journal File System)和 ODM(對(duì)象數(shù)據(jù)管理)。AIX 提供的一個(gè)系統(tǒng)管理工具(System Management Interface Tool ,smit)可以實(shí)現(xiàn)幾乎所有的系統(tǒng)管理工作,它以簡(jiǎn)單明了的菜單形式使得不熟悉 UNIX 指令的人也可以很容易地進(jìn)行系統(tǒng)管理工作。AIX 操作系統(tǒng)是二進(jìn)制兼容的(Binary Compatible),其應(yīng)用程序可以在從便攜機(jī)到超級(jí)電腦上運(yùn)行而不需要重新編譯。AIX 是一個(gè)真正有生產(chǎn)力的操作系統(tǒng),它提供了 7 天 24 小時(shí)的運(yùn)作能力,同時(shí) HACMP(High Availability Cluster Muti-Processing)的應(yīng)用也使系統(tǒng)具備了非常好的可靠性。

RS/6000 產(chǎn)品概述
RS/6000是IBM公司的出色產(chǎn)品。其UNIX工作站和服務(wù)器自1990年推出以來(lái),已經(jīng)成為同行業(yè)的佼佼者。剛剛進(jìn)入2000年,RS/6000在全球的裝機(jī)量就突破了100萬(wàn)套。自1993年RS/6000進(jìn)入中國(guó)市場(chǎng)以來(lái),其裝機(jī)量已超過(guò)一萬(wàn)套,目前市場(chǎng)占有量穩(wěn)居第一,被廣泛應(yīng)用于金融、電信、交通、制造等行業(yè)以及政府部門。RS/6000具有極寬的產(chǎn)品線,包括筆記本型,桌上型,桌邊型和機(jī)柜型,還有最高端的并行處理系統(tǒng)(SP),為適應(yīng)用戶不同檔次的應(yīng)用需求提供相應(yīng)的解決方案。
RS/6000不僅是最佳的開放系統(tǒng)平臺(tái),而且在RS/6000系列所有型號(hào)的機(jī)器上,都采用同一結(jié)構(gòu)的RISC技術(shù)芯片,運(yùn)行同一個(gè)操作系統(tǒng):AIX/6000,并且實(shí)現(xiàn)了二進(jìn)制兼容,任一應(yīng)用軟件不作任何修改就可在所有型號(hào)的機(jī)器上運(yùn)行,極大地保護(hù)了用戶的投資。同時(shí)RS/6000還具有強(qiáng)大的通訊和聯(lián)網(wǎng)能力,能夠支持從PC到大型主機(jī)、跨越多種平臺(tái)的連接方式,如:Ethernet , TokenRing , FDDI , SNA , X.25 , ATM 等。
RS/6000產(chǎn)品,不論從其芯片技術(shù),其產(chǎn)品系列寬度,其通訊能力,其外部設(shè)備支持能力,還是從其操作系統(tǒng)和應(yīng)用軟件的支持均是目前業(yè)界最好的選擇。

IBM RISC 芯片技術(shù)
RISC(精簡(jiǎn)指令集計(jì)算)是IBM工程師在70年代初發(fā)明的一種處理器體系結(jié)構(gòu)。在這種技術(shù)中,系統(tǒng)硬件將完成最常用的計(jì)算機(jī)指令,同時(shí)在一個(gè)時(shí)鐘周期內(nèi)處理器將完成多項(xiàng)任務(wù),該技術(shù)提供了軟件與硬件之間的協(xié)作,這使得處理器的性能得到迅速的提高。1990年,IBM推出了第二代RISC芯片,及POWER芯片;1993年6月IBM推出了POWER2芯片。同年10月,IBM與Apple 、Motorola聯(lián)手開發(fā)出新一代的PowerPC(Power Performance Chip)芯片。目前RS/6000產(chǎn)品線上使用的有PowerPC 604e、RS64、POWER3等芯片,其中64位的RS64芯片也已推出第二代產(chǎn)品。
IBM在1999年推出的RS/6000 S80是第一種采用銅芯片技術(shù)的UNIX服務(wù)器,目前推出的44P-170、44P-270也用采用了這種芯片技術(shù)。銅是良好的電氣導(dǎo)體,銅材料的采用使得電子器件體積的減小以及性能的提高成為可能。銅線的阻抗比鋁線低40%,這就意味著使用銅線的處理器速度將提高15%。在下個(gè)世紀(jì)初,IBM將推出千兆芯片。
同其它廠家的產(chǎn)品相比,IBM的芯片具有更小的芯片尺寸,更低的功耗,性能更加優(yōu)良,避免了其它廠商生產(chǎn)的芯片所普遍存在的芯片過(guò)熱問(wèn)題,提高了系統(tǒng)整體的穩(wěn)定性和可靠性。RS/6000是RISC技術(shù)成功應(yīng)用的典范。

對(duì)稱多處理技術(shù)(Symmetric Mulit-Processor , SMP)
。
1.2.1 傳統(tǒng) P SMP 的缺點(diǎn)
通常采用SMP技術(shù)的UNIX系統(tǒng),其真正有效的CPU數(shù)目都不超過(guò)8個(gè)。這時(shí)因?yàn)閭鹘y(tǒng)的SMP技術(shù)有以下的局限性:
內(nèi)存總線擁擠
當(dāng)多個(gè)CPU共享同一個(gè)內(nèi)存總線時(shí),一定會(huì)發(fā)生類似以太網(wǎng)(Ethernet )上的碰撞情形,例如,當(dāng)某一進(jìn)程正在存取內(nèi)存的數(shù)據(jù)時(shí),其它進(jìn)程就不能使用這唯一的一條內(nèi)存總線。
系統(tǒng)可用性 計(jì)算機(jī)的CPU數(shù)目越多,可能發(fā)生故障的元件就越多,一般的SMP的UNIX系統(tǒng)并非不停頓主機(jī)的設(shè)計(jì),因此任何一個(gè)CPU 或其它元件故障出現(xiàn),都會(huì)引起系統(tǒng)的停機(jī),造成用戶的損失。
1.2.2 0 RS/6000 的解決方案
鑒于以上的一些問(wèn)題,IBM RS/6000的SMP在設(shè)計(jì)時(shí)采取以下的方式來(lái)解決:

RS/6000的CPU、內(nèi)存和輸入/輸出設(shè)備中間,特別加上了一個(gè)類似電話交換機(jī)的機(jī)構(gòu),稱為Paraller Data Switch 。這個(gè)Switch可以同時(shí)提供多條總線通道而減少內(nèi)存總線擁擠的問(wèn)題。這樣的功能及速度是目前采用SMP技術(shù)的UNIX系統(tǒng)中領(lǐng)先的。其結(jié)構(gòu)如下圖所示:

可以在系統(tǒng)末開機(jī)的情況下執(zhí)行系統(tǒng)的檢測(cè)動(dòng)作,也可以在系統(tǒng)任何一個(gè)元件發(fā)生問(wèn)題時(shí)自動(dòng)將系統(tǒng)重新啟動(dòng),并將有問(wèn)題的元件隔離待修,不需人工處理。
