The San Diego Padres facedthe Los Angeles Dodgers, in front of a nearsellout crowd of 12,224 at the new Olympicvenue. Vendors plied the crowd with hotdogs, peanuts and―in a nod to local tastes―tea, and spectators gamely tried to sing alongto Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Nobodyseemed to mind that the game ended in aninconclusive tie.
