Dear Annie: A friend sent me your article about how more managers are moving to find jobs, which interested me because I'm about to move halfway across the country. My wife, who was unemployed for two-and-a-half years, got a fantastic job offer in a different city, so, now that we've finally sold our house, we're going.
Just one problem: Our destination is pretty much a one-industry town and, unfortunately, it's not my industry. I've put out some fee(來自:www.newchangjing.com 蒲公英文 摘:5篇英語小短文)lers with big
employers there and I am getting the impression that lack of industry-specific experience is going to make it tough to get hired, even though I'm highly regarded in my field, which is finance and compliance. I know people do manage to move from one industry to another, but how do they do it? Any suggestions? -- Trailing Spouse
Dear T.S.: Just wondering, does your wife's new employer offer job-search assistance to so-called trailing spouses? A 2012 Atlas Van Lines survey found that more than half (56%) of big companies do, so it's certainly worth asking if you haven't already.
Whether or not such help is available, there's no question you're facing a
tricky hurdle here. "Ordinarily, people have a choice about where to move, so they try to be strategic about it and pick a place where there are likely to be lots of opportunities, " says Amanda Augustine, resident job search expert at TheLadders. To help with that, data analysts at TheLadders have come up
with a new map that shows where in the U.S. the competition for management jobs is most, and least, intense.
Although the choice has already been made for you, your lack of industry experience isn't insurmountable. Finding a job is just going to take a lot more focused effort than it would if you weren't making the switch. Augustine recommends a three-step approach:
1. Tap your network. Of course, every job seeker has to do this, but you need to cast the widest possible net. "Reach out to anyone you know on LinkedIn, or
from your college fraternity or alumni association, or former vendors, clients, and colleagues, " Augustine says. Don't discount relatives, neighbors, or
anyone else you meet in your new city: "Even if they don't work in the industry you're trying to get into, you never know who they know."
While you're at it, you might speak with some of your wife's friends and professional acquaintances, too. "The goal is to find people with whom you can do informational interviews -- not asking for a job, but finding out as much as you can about what's happening in your target industry and where your skills might fit, " says Augustine. If you can wow one or two of these folks with your talents, it may get you in the door: "Our research has shown that you're 10 times more likely to be hired without industry experience if you have a referral from someone on the inside who will be in your corner."
2. Research, research, research. "Often, you can sell your achievements based on what a given company is going through at the moment, " says Augustine. "For instance, if a potential employer is doing a major restructuring, and you have experience with making that work, say so in your cover letter and, on your resume, emphasize your role in a similar restructuring. The point is to find common ground between your past successes and what an employer needs right now."
Obviously, figuring that out will take lots of detailed study -- online, in the trade press, on each company's website, and in public documents like annual reports. "Set up Google alerts for the company and for keywords that are important in the industry, " Augustine suggests. "In your cover letter, and later in an interview, it makes a great impression if you can offer insightful comments and ask smart questions about current industry trends and things the company is doing.

It’s widely known to us that English is the most popular language and is widely spoken. As the second language to us. I think there are many benefits if you have a good grasp of English. First, with the advent of globalization, we communicate and trade more and more with the people from other countries. You have to admit that English is the most preferred language in the world. If you speak English fluently, language barrier will be removed. You will be in a more favorable position in the future. Second, if you want to keep pace with the latest information, you must study English well. They are all written in English. Third, one language represents one culture, it will decide the way how you are looking at the world. Studying English will make you open-minded and have a diverse outlook of the world. Fortunately, our country pay enough attention to English that we can studay English since we are children. After so many years of learning English, everyone of us must have many interesting experience or some good way to learn English .Please share your experience with each other.
OK,I’m the frist.I started to learn English when I was a pupils.I didn’t know what English is at that time.So at that time,I didn’t have any interesting things to share, either. It’s was when I became a junior high school student that I was really aware of English and liked it .I think When I was in senior high school my teacher assigned a task that we would prepare for a small drama in English in groups which consist of five people each. We would translate lines and rehearse on our own. You know, studying English is a boring thing to some degree. You must have a strong interest in it if you want to have a good grasp of it. That activity made me do it. And during the preparation, we not only improved our English very rapidly, but also learnt how to get along well and co-operate with others. Every group did not want to lag behind, so every member in one group tried their best and was very careful with his part. You can guess, in the end the activity achieved great success. It became an unforgettable memory during my tense and monotonous life of junior high school.
Oh It’s my turn.I began to studay English when I was very young. To tell the truth , I was forced by my parents.Because I start English very earlily ,I coule read some simple English book .Today I share a book I have read before with you.Actually when I read English book ,I would read it’s Chinese first.OK ,my book is WATER FOR YOU
Today, I finnsh to read a book about water: “water for you”. The book “water for you” is very interesting, it tell me a lot of useful things.
The writer of this book is fiona Angustia .He is come from the UK.
The book tell us: Water travels a long way to our house from the oceans, dam, reservoirs, spring.,wells or through the plumbing system. It plays an important role in our life. Sometimes it is our friend, yet more often than not it can become our enemy, in particulare when it was wasted or polluted and was not treated in time. It is hightime to take action in order to save our clean water resources?
I think so too. Now there are more and more people are polluting and wasting our water. Please stop doing it, because all of us will die if there is not water. So we should preserve the water
in the world.
(四) Since he(she) talk about a book .I also share a book I have read.My book is Robinson Crusoe . Robinson like adventure, but his parents didn’t agree him. When his parents refuse to let him take at least one journey, he runs away with a friend and secures free passage to London. Misfortune begins immediately, in the form of rough weather. The ship is forced to land at Yarmouth. When Crusoe's friend learns the circumstances under which he left his family, he becomes angry and tells him that he should have never come to the sea. They part, and Crusoe makes his way to London via land. He thinks briefly about going home, but cannot stand to be humiliated. He manages to find another voyage headed to Guiana. Once there, he wants to become a trader. On the way, the ship is attacked by Turkish pirates, who bring the crew and passengers into the Moorish port of Sallee. Robinson is made a slave. For two years he plans an escape. An opportunity is presented when he is sent out with two Moorish youths to go fishing. Crusoe throws one overboard, and tells the other one, called Xury, that he may stay if he is faithful. They anchor on what appears to be uninhabited land. Soon they see that black people live there. These natives are very
friendly to Crusoe and Xury. At one point, the two see a Portuguese ship in the distance. They manage to paddle after it and get the attention of those on board. The captain is kind and says he will take them aboard for free and bring them to Brazil.
(五)
Since two of you share your book .I share my opinions of learning English. According to my studying,I think the best way to learn English is SPEAKING and LISTENING.Try you best to speak English with others. And there is a good way for you is that make a penfriend with native English speaker.
The more you speak, the more you understand and use.Even the word which you don't know, the more you use it and see it, you'll know.
Try to write anything that you want and see,and then ask you teacher or friend who English very much to correct it. But ask them just point out where you are wrong, you try to think about why you are wrong and how to correct it.
When you see a new word, you'd better make some different sentences to know it.Ask others to help you correct it.
